Our thoughts and words are powerful transmitters of energy, both positive and negative, giving them the potential to create, to manifest, to heal or to hurt. Wonderful things can happen when we think and speak with conscious, focused intent, but when we allow ourselves to dwell on negative thoughts, that too, can become our reality. What we think and say has tremendous weight and power, and so it is always in our best interest to be aware of how we use this powerful energy.

" When you deeply listen and get where people are coming from, and then care about them when you are there, they are more likely to let you take them where you want them to go."

~Warren Bennis

When I read this quote,  I think of trust. There are so many of us walking around wounded. Wounded from past relationships, lost job opportunities, failed attempts at changing a destructive behavior, and so much more. In my profession, I am asking people to trust me. That is a huge step for some. What I like about this quote is that it embraces three key elements to any successful relationship: listening (really listening), understanding (which can translate into empathy, compassion, validation, non-judgement), and unconditional love and acceptance ( ok, maybe four elements) of who that person is. When you nurture relationships with these qualities, it evokes trust. Very important when you are asking someone to let go of behaviors that have been their coping mechanisms. Let's practice meeting people where they are and allow them to be vulnerable, and know that they can trust us to care about them when we are sitting beside them.
